Material Migration –––– The impulse to restore in a fragile world.

REDRESS COMPETITION, 2019

01. THE PROBLEM

The Redress competition, the first one based on sustainability and recycling, aim to help and support designers designing collections that are more conscious.

The inspiration for the collection came from the current scenario of refugees and the definition of family, physical and non-physical home which is re-discussed all over the world.

02. THE SPECIFIC SOLUTION

In ancient times, Nomads defined their home through textiles that they were able to carry easily along their journey: those textile were evoking safety, belongings and gathering.

So, the main material for this capsule collection are the left overs textiles from furniture shops based in London. Those beautiful patterned, embroidered, woven textile pieces, usually all mixed together in a corner of those shops were, for me, the symbol of chaos and beauty within Home.

The technique chosen for the making of the garments is inspired by Paco Rabanne that during the 1960s was designing modular garments made out of small pieces.

03. THE OUTCOME

The combination and shapes for the jewel-garments are almost endless while also gives a real chance to use the small leftovers emphasising their beauty an uniqueness.

The garments not only becomes a piece of jewellery but also recalls the idea of movement from the nomads from which the inspiration comes from.
