In collaboration with Mumbai Marangoni students and NGO Khadi fabric, we reimagined a new India by incorporating traditional fabric into modern fashion designs.
Khadi, a handwoven fabric championed by Mahatma Gandhi as a symbol of freedom, is typically used for traditional purposes. This NGO-promoted project aimed to recontextualize Khadi, exploring its strengths and areas for innovation. Students studied traditional Indian uniforms, using storytelling to design new "uniforms of freedom" that honor tradition while embracing contemporary and future perspectives.
The project emphasized creativity, cultural respect, and forward-thinking design.
